Dear club members I got a email from a well known mail order company today and well I was amazed at the cheek.

Offering the club commission to stick banners and advertising on club website.

Percentages for what members or people buy from link .

Well I’m a strong believer in the local bike shop ok they are not always the cheapest ,but we have to keep them going.

If we don’t we won’t have them anymore and the world will be a sorry place .
So please support local shop if you can

Back at one of my favourite venues of the series after having enjoyed the first time round I was looking forward to the revisit as the conditions suit me really well.

After a few warm up laps to get the day started I determined that i would use both bikes as the ground was very sticky especially in the wooded sections which required a lot of running in fact the whole wooded section was a run after the first lap of the race.

I started from the second row at the start being 16th in the standings had a good start holding 13th into the wooded section only to come out the woods in 21st after being caught it in a fall with other riders.

As the race progressed I found myself with the familiar face of Toby charlton, Toby rides for Sotonia CC and we regularly have are battles in the races we managed to stayed together for majority of the race helping each other with encouragement until the bike change I managed to get the better of him as he changed bikes to a single speed mountain bike which gave me an advantage.

Of the remained of the race I was on my own with various people in front of me dropping out due to bike failure as so on, on the last lap I could see I was catching James Evans so I pushed hard through the running section of the woods to catch up with James and pass him on the exit of the woods and charge for the line to finish 17th.

Overall a good day had with a 17th in the bag.

Many thanks

Paul (SarumVelo)

New Years Day Cx Fun Race Newbury.

It was a last minute decision to enter Newbury this morning for there New Year’s Day CX race with fancy dress as an option and a hair of the dog shot when you finished with a foam cannon near the finish which made light entertainment for the growing number of spectators.

photo was care of alex Facebook page (hope person who took it does not mind)

The race was only 30 minutes long with vets/ Seniors / Women & juniors put into one race.

I started from the second row today as instructed made a good start and got away from the chaos behind in the first tight twisty section. I was left in a group of 4 from the majority of the race Julian Mann from VCVenta & and two chaps from banjo cycles after 2 laps Julian had a puncture and had to abandon the race which left me at the front of the pack with the two banjo boys hot on my heels.

As the race progressed further I found myself on my own and finishing the race in 10th position.

Moving on to Sunday’s race at Southampton I feel confident and am looking forward to what looks to be a mud bath!

Thanks again SarumVelo & Hills cycles and fishing tackle for the support.
